Reliability &
Performance
A constant supply of power
is absolutely essential to Atvantage service operations.
Specifications for the Center 7 building called for 60 watts of
power per square foot. Back-up power capability has been
over-engineered by approximately 40% to provide five layers of power
generation redundancy to ensure uninterrupted power.
-
Uninterruptible Power Source, UPS-The UPS acts like a huge surge
protector, providing clean power to computer systems. The UPS
system is tied into both the utility power as well as into the
diesel generator power systems.
-
DC Batteries-Emergency DC battery banks are constantly being
charged. Always online, these batteries provide approximately 2.5
hours of emergency power. However, the batteries are only required
to carry the load of the facility for 13 seconds while the diesel
generator system comes online.
-
Diesel Generator-The 1500-kilowatt backup diesel generator is one
of the largest commercially available generators available in the
industry. A 6,000-gallon fuel tank supplies the generator.
Contracts with diesel fuel providers provide for ongoing fuel
deliveries, generating power for the facility indefinitely.
-
Mobile Diesel Generator-In the event the diesel generator fails,
the battery back-up system can supply power until a mobile diesel
generator is placed in service.
Data Bunker
The underground data bunker is a highly secure,
hardened area that features steel reinforced concrete walls. From
the bunker fourteen (14) four-inch conduits run throughout the
business complex where the Center 7 building is located. These
conduits extend the network to the park's perimeter. Three egress
points leaving the park enable the fiber networks to go out
disparate pathways. This reduces significantly the risk of the
network going down because of contruction-related digging and
excavation in the business complex.
Connectivity
The data bunker houses multiple gigabits of
local loop to the Internet. Two fiber SONET (Synchronous Optical
Network) rings currently support the facility: 1) an OC-48 from XO
Communications (formed from the merger of NextLink and Concentric);
and 2) an OC-12 from Qwest Communications (formally the USWest
network combined with the Qwest network). Center 7 has also
provisioned multiple DS3s, which are 45 MB of Internet bandwidth.
Security
The Center 7
building features a redundant suite of security systems, including
video monitoring systems, man-traps, card-key systems, hand-scan
systems, and a 24x7 team of security officers.
Environmental
Controls
The Bunker, Data Center, and NOC are protected
by a two-stage, dry-pipe, pre-action fire suppression system. The
system has several built-in, fail-safe features that provide
state-of-the-art fire protection. In addition, a fully monitored,
fault-tolerant HVAC system maintains the appropriate climate for
data and network system operations.
